Yaye Dib Afrodance company presents one day of West African Sabar drumming and dance. 1pm-3pm Sabar Drumming £15 , £17 inclusive of drum hire (please email to book a drum)3.30pm-6pm Sabar dancing £20 This is a rare chance to experience Senegalese culture at its best in the capital city. We are excited to be able to invite you to immerse yourself in this beautiful Senegalese tradition with two great masters, Diene ‘Waaw Waaw’ Sagna and Amdy Ngom. Pulsating, undulating rhythms, sharp hip thrusts, swinging leg jumps and inviting drum calls will permeate the studio during this energy-fuelled workshop masterclass. Come and join us and share in this enriching cultural experience in London’s 4th Floor West dance studios. Diene ‘Waaw Waaw’ Sagna An exceptional dancer and teacher from Dakar, founder of Yaye Dib Afrodance (named in memory of his late mother), Diene ‘Waaw Waaw’ Sagna came to England 3 years ago and has taken the African dance and music scene by storm. Not only does he teach regular weekly classes in his hometown of Manchester but he has also travelled worldwide teaching and performing throughout Europe, to Brazil and Dubai. His love of dance comes from a long family tradition; his mother was a dancer of the Sererre region of Senegal and most of his siblings are part of the profession. His brother, Mbaye Ndiaye, a former member of the ‘Ballet National du Sénégal’ shared his discipline with Diene from an early age and he grew up to train and perform with many dance groups including Davidson Boys and Daray Dioubo.Upon leaving school, Diene turned professional training with the prestigious Blaise Senghor in the capital, studying and developing in a variety of traditional and contemporary West African dance styles. He specialises in Senegalese Sabar dance, however he is also extensively qualified in Djembe dance originating from Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinée Konakry. Career highlights include working with the infamous Youssou N’dour and Coumba Gawlo Seck, choreographing and performing for ‘Collabo’ with Cindy Claes in London’s Stratford Circus and teaching and dancing onstage at WOMAD 2010 with the sensational Anjelique Kidjo and the legendary Salif Keita. Diene’s exuberant personality shines through in his dance and classes, encouraging anyone from the complete beginner to the advanced dancer to feel challenged yet inspired to develop. Amdy Ngom Master drummer from the capital city of Dakar, Amdy Ngom came to the UK whilst touring across Europe as part of the “magical circus adventure from the amazing continent”, ‘Afrika! Afrika!’ Amdy trained at the renowned Blaise Senghor in Dakar as a student of Mbar Ndiaye. His group Bax Yaye performed at many drum and dance shows across Senegal as well as participating in many Tanebeer’s (African showcase and festival); one of the greatest and most traditional ways to enjoy Sabar. Since his arrival in the UK, Amdy has become a much loved figure in the African Sabar scene for his warm-hearted nature, charisma, patience and care in his teaching. The Drum, in association with The Albany , Contact , UK Arts Intern ational and Afrovibes Foundation The Netherlands presents the Afrovibes Festival
Join us at The Albany, Deptford, The Drum, Birmingham and Contact, Manchester for a three week festival of cutting edge theatre, dance and visual arts from contemporary South Africa . The festival begins on 5th October at The Albany, before moving to The Drum on 12th October and then Contact on 19th.
The Afrovibes Festival will transform each venue into a South African shebeen - the setting for a lively programme of theatre and dance, late night music, workshops, post show talks, performance poetry and an authentic South African inspired menu in the Township Cafe.
The productions within the festival will also be going out solo to various venues around the country so make sure you do not miss out!

Mpumelelo Paul Grootboom's Welcome to Rocksburg
Dubbed ‘the Township Tarantino’ Grootboom’s work continues to amaze audiences the world over as he proves to be one of the most exciting writers and directors to be working in post-apartheid South Africa .
Following the success of Township Stories, Welcome to Rocksburg is a fast paced, edge of your seat, action packed rollercoaster of a play: a cat and mouse game between the criminal underworld and a corrupt police force told in the tradition of the Hollywood action movie, complete with live drumming underscoring the stylised action on stage.
"One of the most remarkable pieces of theatre to emerge from post-apartheid South-Africa" Lyn Gardner , The Guardian (on Township Stories)

Ncamisa! Kiss the Women Directed by Peter Hayes
Ncamisa! Kiss the Women is an explosive and emotional play exploring the consequences of being a lesbian in a Cape Town township.
‘A beautifully crafted piece of theatre that rather than pointing fingers, celebrates the lives, loves, ups and downs of these young women. While the subject matter is controversial and may be viewed as “difficult”, Pam and Peter have created a supremely entertaining stage work, filled with humour and pathos, light and shade.’ SA Mail and Guardian.
A gritty world of deep passions, serious relationships and casual violence woven together with soccer and song with unique interpretations from Anthony and The Johnsons and Lucinda Williams.
"This is the kind of theatre needed to change attitudes" Citizen S.A

Dear All dance lovers,
Here's the invitation of my body percussion workshop- the first time for adults in London so I need plenty of support!
Body percussion is the dance/musical form creating different rhythms through clapping and stomping.
Ayaka would incorporate some funky moves- it is very healthy and creative dance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccfPtipyCv4
Ayaka's workshop got really good feedback from the participants from Tribe of Doris Summer School camp and Brsifest (Bristol 2010)
So it is the great chance to experience this special, enthusiastic class!

Only bring your trainers/hard-sole shoes.
Please find the details in the attachment- also please spread the words for those who might interested in :)
You can drop in on the day, but if you could let me know your coming by aykolour_dance@hotmail.com by 10 October with quoting
'knew through adad-dance UK mailing list,' you'll receive the concession of 5pounds.
