Embodied dancer teacher training Join Abby Hoffmann for an intensive exploration of what yoga can offer dancers and performers. This training will be a chance for those interested in working with specialist populations and yoga. Embodied Dancer is an innovative project blending the ancient teachings of yoga with cutting edge developments in dance training and performance enhancement. This intensive training course will be a unique opportunity for experiential discovery, discussion, scholarship, and personal development. What the training will offer An 60 hour curriculum that investigates the benefits of yoga for dancers in several key areas namely: creating safe, effective practice using anatomical and bio mechanical knowledge in order to apply specific techniques to a classroom or rehearsal/performance situation. This will not qualify you as a yoga teacher, but if you are already teaching yoga will add to your professional development and skillset. How will it be taught? Practical, hands-on explorations will sit alongside more formal lecture and seminar discussions. Who is this course for? Maybe you are already a yoga teacher, or someone with a background in dance and movement. You want to understand the application of yoga principles to dance conditioning and training, and to learn how to apply these principles and practices to your current teaching. If you are not a teacher, this course will deepen your understanding of anatomical and movement principles in both the yoga and dance traditions - and how they inform each other. For those who are teaching there will be opportunities to practice your skills and get feedback and mentoring on your progress. There are 3 weekends which need to be attended, as well as 15 hours of self study and teaching practice. On completion of the course you will receive a certificate and be eligible to join our growing community of dancers, teachers and yogi’s who are interested in enhancing dancers health and well-being as well as improving performance. Embodied Dancer will show you how to utilise and apply the benefits of yoga techniques to performers with particular reference to dancers and safe dance practice. Rationale: Dancers and performers are highly skilled individuals whose particular expertise lies in the mastery of the body and who are expected to perform at high levels of intensity which is often not cultivated in training or rehearsal situations. The need for supplementary practices and techniques has been identified by researchers, academics and teachers as being vital to a dancers overall fitness and conditioning, but to date, very little research exists to support the anecdotal praise for yoga as an effective and multidimensional approach to wellbeing for the dancer. In her PhD and subsequent work with Embodied Dancer, Abby has identified a range of benefits and best practices that can be assimilated into dance training regimes and/or rehearsal and performance periods. Following existing guidelines For more info follow this link
