Our Dance programme continues this Autumn season in November and December. FIPA present fantastic Bollywood dance and puppetry with their double bill, Dark Angels and The Fatal Hunt. We are also presenting a Dance Showcase triple bill, featuring emerging artists Temitope Ajose Cutting and her company, and rising duo Seeta Patel and Kamala Devam.
We are also continuing our Dance on Film programme with screenings of dance films, old and new, followed by exciting masterclasses to match.

An opportunity to take part in various dance techniques with teachers from around the globe. It is a chance to gain insights into the passions, challenges, and experiences of various artists and teachers.

Contemporary Caribbean Fusion with Oniel Pryce, Thursday 3rd and 10th December 2009, 7.30-9.00pm.

Oniel’s classes are influenced by his passion of promoting intercultural understanding of dances from the Caribbean, coupled with his experience as a contemporary dancer/choreographe r. His class will focus on the principles of Caribbean traditional dances fused with contemporary dance styles.

FEEDBACK33 TEACHER'S BIOGRAPHY
Oniel Pryce – is an experienced dance educator, administrator, performer and choreographer, who specialises in the theory and practice of Caribbean traditional dance forms, Jamaican Dancehall, Afro-Cuban technique, Caribbean jazz and Contemporary/ Caribbean Contemporary. A native of Jamaica, Oniel began his formal dance training at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts School of Dance before going on to gain a Bachelor of Fine Arts Diploma in Dance Education from The State University of New York, College of Brockport, and an MA in Choreography from Laban.

Oniel has shared his specialist knowledge in Caribbean traditional dance technique by lecturing at the Edna Manley College of the Visual of Performing Arts, conducting various workshops for dance teachers in the Caribbean, and via the role of adjudicator for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) annual dance festival of the arts. Since moving to London he has worked as a freelance teacher/choreograph er with various organisations including: Irie! dance theatre, Caboodle Arts, Feeback33, Cornwall Youth Dance Company, Bridgewater College Dance Department, in Somerset, and Goldsmiths, University of London.

Feeding his passion for dance performance, Oniel has performed in Movment Angol Dance Company’s 2007 production Physically Masculine, BiggeThanme’s 2008 production Range and Breathe, at Resolutions 2008 in Cry Haiti, choreographed by Shelley Ann Maxwell and, most recently, in State of Emergency’s production Dads and Lads Move, which toured nationally earlier this year.

Jackie Guy, choreographer of the hit West End musical The Harder They Come, will be conducting two master classes in Caribbean dance forms which will cover in depth the following:
· Kumina (1840 Post Emancipation) ;
· Quadrille (18th and 19th century France and England with its creolised forms);
· Folklore: integrated song and dance to explore nuances.
· Attendees will benefit from physical participation, lecture note taking and discussion.
Females – please bring a head wrap and a wide skirt/wide wrap.
Males – come along and partner female participants in the Quadrille; fill the role of King in Kumina dance.

Jackie Guy: one of Britain ’s leading experts in the area of African-Caribbean dance forms, Jackie has more than 40 years experience as an educator, performer, choreographer and artistic director. A member of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC) for 15 years, Jackie trained in Jamaica under Alma MockYen C.D. In 1988 he was appointed Artistic Director of Kokuma Dance Theatre Company in Birmingham . Under his directorship, Kokuma won the Black Dance Award for Production and Choreography, and the Prudential Commendation Award for Excellence, Innovation and Creativity. In 1998 Jackie blazed a path in the UK for African and Caribbean Dance, within the field of education, when he was appointed Course Coordinator on the UK ’s first diploma course in African and Caribbean Dance delivered by Irie! dance theatre in partnership with Birkbeck University . Jackie has lectured extensively at various universities and colleges throughout Britain , and facilitated numerous community dance projects with the UK , USA , Canada , the Caribbean and, as part of a British Council initiative, in Zimbabwe .
Jackie was recently commissioned to choreograph the stage musical of the iconic movie The Harder They Come. Following a triumphant run in London ’s West End, this production went on to successfully tour Toronto and Miami this summer. Within his choreographic works, Jackie fuses traditional Caribbean dance vocabulary and folklore with elements of modern/contemporary dance techniques. The result is a unique style which balances theoretical principles with a practical approach that enables dancers to experience the dance form whilst also learning its socio-cultural dynamics and nuances.

The ORISHAS/YORUBA course's main aim is to increase the level of understanding of this specific dance style, orishas characterisations and to enhance your dance vocabulary and isolation technique. As well as to introduce you to a whole new context of body language that can later on be used in the ehnancement of your dance. Most of the classes are with Live drum percussion which add a new dimension to your learning.

SON apply to Ladies & Man Styling (3 MEN SPACES LEFT)
The SON course is an exciting and unique opportunity for you to learn, brush up on and improve your knowledge of different SON rhythms, that will improve your Cuban dance style and enrich your dance, improvisation and isolation-body movement techniques, as well as your timing, footwork, style, posture and *partner work.

Roberto Fonseca is at the heart of DJ and producer Gilles Peterson’s latest project, Havana Cultura, created to raise awareness of the site http://www.havana-cultura.com/ <http://www.havana-cultura.com/> . The website is a global art initiative from Havana Club rum and a window on contemporary Cuban culture developed to give the spirit of Havana a global voice. The Havana Cultura album is a celebration of Cuba’s freshest musical talent from latin, afro jazz and fusion to hip hop, funk, reggaeton and R&B. The album includes a collection of new material written and recorded in Havana by local singers such as vocalist Danay (described by Gilles Peterson as “Cuba’s Jill Scott”) and Ogguere. It has been released on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label on October 26th. The GET IT RIGHT - 110% GENUINE CUBAN dance course series - covers dance and music interpretation in a diversity of Cuban dance rhythms and styles - such as Afro-Cuban in ORISHAS/YORUBA & SON. During each course we are going to concentrate on the details and specifications of each dance style. They can be taken consecutively or as a one off.


The ORISHAS/YORUBA course's main aim is to increase the level of understanding of this specific dance style, orishas characterisations and to enhance your dance vocabulary and isolation technique. As well as to introduce you to a whole new context of body language that can later on be used in the ehnancement of your dance. Most of the classes are with Live drum percussion which add a new dimension to your learning.



The SON course is an exciting and unique opportunity for you to learn, brush up on and improve your knowledge of different SON rhythms, that will improve your Cuban dance style and enrich your dance, improvisation and isolation-body movement techniques, as well as your timing, footwork, style, posture and *partner work.



* Courses such as Son are taught by myself, *Alcala &/or *Rafael. We hope to have enough MEN so that both sexes wil benefit to the maximum. However, this will depend in how many MEN are interested in the course.

Hip Hop musicians opportunity to perform 'Look At Me London' showcase
Look At Me London event: Do you want to make it as a Hip Hop artist?
Look At Me London will be an evening of live Hip Hop music to support, encourage and nurture fresh musical talent within Southwark and South London. We are offering performers aged 16 – 20 the opportunity to showcase their music in front of music industry professionals and peers. Demonstrations, advice and feedback will be given by the industry experts as well as youth organisations that specialise and have an interest in the evening’s theme. Look At Me London unites young, local music-lovers, experienced older musicians and youth music organisations through the exchange of performance, enthusiasm and passion. Look At Me London will be co-ordinated by Marie-Claire Denyer, a freelance youth-music project manager who has previously worked in the music and media industries. The event is being promoted and supported in partnership with Southark Arts Forum (SAF). SAF is a network of over 2000 arts professionals in Southwark and London. Artist requirements:
Must be aged 16 - 20 yrs
No previous performance experience required, however you will need to be an ambitious and dedicated individual with an unfaltering desire to make it in the music industry
