The Afro-Latin Lounge

The new issue of Songlines (November/December 2012, #88, pictured right) is on sale in the UK from today and on its way to overseas subscribers. The free 15-track compilation CD that accompanies the issue includes tracks from the ten Top of the World albums including Bellowhead, Lucas Santtana and Lau, plus an exclusive playlist by the Adjaye brothers – renowned architect David and musician/producer Peter.
If that wasn’t enough, Songlines columnist and 6Music presenter Cerys Matthews has compiled a bonus CD of sonic treats straight from the valleys, to celebrate WOMEX 2013 in Wales.

This autumn, Tavaziva Dance will be launching our new all male youth dance company, Tavaziva Male!
We are looking for 15 young male dancers living in Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest with a raw talent and passion for dance. The company will meet on a weekly basis at The Bernie Grant Arts Centre and train in Bawren Tavaziva's trademark African and contemporary dance style. Each dancer will have a mentor from the company and have the opportunity to perform to live audiences. This opportunity has been funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation

DanceXchange is seeking a creative and motivated individual to deliver effective marketing, press and information provision, working as part of our marketing and communications team to drive engagement in dance.

You will have at least 2 years’ practical experience in an arts marketing role, writing, proofing and editing content to a high standard for a range of materials (printed and online). You will also be confident in using databases, content management systems and social media tools; possess outstanding attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills, and have an enthusiasm for dance.

It was an amazing afternoon - learning to listen to the beat of music the way we listen to the beat of our heart. Follow up workshop with Master Elder Sanchez
In this workshop Elder, with the help of a top percussionist, will explain how to identify the sound of the congas in the structure of the salsa songs so that you can feel and capture the beat of music with your ear, body and heart. He will explain the connection between la clave and the congas! People will dance to congas and music at different speeds! There will be also a bit of rumba and cha cha cha, and, of course, the beloved bachata!
Levels: Anybody from beginners to advanced level who wants to learn salsa in a deep and rhythmical way, including people who have difficulty understanding the salsa beat! Due to high interest, best to book in advance!!
