Read on for our schedule, topics and guest speakers’ names, which will be updated regularly.
Talk 01 – The Creative Economy: Untapped Opportunity
November 29 – 13:30 – 14:30
Book via Event Brite
Creativity plays an important part in our economy, making up 10% of the UK’s exports. Yet it seems to be unquantifiable and devalued. We give thought leaders centre stage to share their overview of the challenges facing creativity in the UK, as well as their views on possible solutions and the future of the sector.
Speakers: Adam Graham of Weapon 7 and BIMA, Richard Russell of Arts Council England, and more speakers to be confirmed.
Talk 02 – Distribution, IP and the ‘free’ economy
November 29 – 15:00 – 16:00
Book via Event Brite
Intellectual property was put in place to protect the written words of artists when the printing press was invented. Since then, the gap has widened with the speed at which technology has challenged our methodology of distributing content. This session will tackle the complexity of protecting your rights as an artist whilst allowing space for creative expression.
Speakers: Jon Webster of MMF, Shainul Kassam of Fortune Law and Prof. Andrew Murray of LSE.
Talk 03 – The Art of Funding: Legend versus Reality
November 29 – 16:30-17:30
Book via Event Brite
Public funds available to the arts may be dwindling, but the options to raise funds have only increased with the rise of crowd-funding. This session aims to clear up the urban legends behind funding with real life examples underlining the risks, rewards and time investment to make that cash available to you.
Speakers: Philipp Figueroa (filmmaker and editor) of Sidekick Creatives, Alexis Kennedy of Fail Better Games, and John Leyden of Carbon Accountancy.
Talk 04 – The Artist’s (R)Evolution: A Look at Tomorrow’s Best Practice
November 30 – 13:30 – 14:30
Book via Event Brite
Despite more artists becoming heavily dependent on grants and public funding, technology now enables creative professionals to reach their audiences and collaborators directly, with little to no cost. This talk investigates the opportunities available to artists in this fast-changing landscape, the meaning of success, the migration of funding, the devaluation of the arts and what you can do to balance promotion, creation, risk and money.
Speakers: Sebastian Morrison (TV director) of FreemantleMedia, theatre producer Stuart Mullins and Mark Shiels of Digital Balcony.
Talk 05 – Collaboration: Partnerships in the Creative Business
November 30 – 15:00-16:00
Book via Event Brite
Working together is about more than just sharing skill sets; it forms the backbone of some of the most impressive creative projects, and allows you to efficiently promote yourself as an artist. This session explores the art of collaboration through successful case studies, as well as the benefits and pitfalls from organisations that have successfully put together large-scale collaborative projects.
Speakers: Donna Walker of Traces, Alice Ladenburg (Artist) and Rhiannon Faith (artist) of Rhiannon Faith:dancingtheatre
Talk 06 – Artists, Brand Yourselves
November 30 – 16:30-17:30

This talk featuring guest speakers will be a jargon-free, open discussion to help artists navigate the digital landscape to maximise your exposure and sales in the real world.

Talk 07 – The Arts: an Agent for Social Change
December 1 – 13:30-14:30
Book via Event Brite
Throughout our history the arts have provided a narrative to challenge our society’s norms, and to expand our ability to comprehend the changing world around us. It provides a much needed escape and form of expression though turbulent times, and it also helps bridge differences as well as unite communities. This talk intends to shed light on how art can positively influence and help communities in the UK and abroad.
Speakers: Jane Earl of Rich Mix, Ade Solanke (screenwriter and playwright), Avaes Mohammad (playwright and poet) and Nick Rhodes of Nightingale Project.
Talk 08 – Women in Creativity: Developing Female Leadership
December 1 – 15:00-16:00

Despite all the progressions in modern society, the gender gap in the creative sector remains. Our guest speakers will be artists and organisations that will discuss the changes to the sector, sharing their personal experiences and insights on developing female leadership, while commending the contribution of creative women to the industry.
