ADAD is looking for artists working with forms of dance of the African Diapsora to participate in the next ADAD Open Stage on Wednesday 5 March 2014 from 7 – 9pm at Spotlight a multi-million pound creative youth space in Poplar, east London , designed to inspire.

Artists – Come and showcase your work in progress and receive feedback from your peers and a panel of dance professionals.  Duration of pieces should be between 5 to 20 minutes long.
 
African, Jazz, Afro-fusion, Caribbean , Hip-hop, Afro-Latin…
 
This platform is open to artists at any stage in their career.   Places on the platform are on a first come, first served basis.  The application deadline for this Open Stage event is Wednesday 19 February 2014.

Square One is a talent management group established to bridge the gap between emerging talent and top professionals.
 
We will be holding an open audition on Saturday the 1st of March from 10:30-4pm at Islington Arts Factory, 2 Parkhurst Road, N7 0SF . 
 
We work with seasoned professionals and also love to develop talent so  are inviting dancers of all abilities and styles to attend.
 
All performers should bring their CV (if they have one) and a USB of their pictures for our books.

The GB Kizomba Competition, part of Championship International of Kizomba (CIK) was launched 2 weeks ago with the publication of the Rules and a Guide.

For the 7th year running MD Entertainments is organising what has become the most established national Kizomba Competition in the UK , sending numerous couples to represent Great Britain at AfricAdancar  and CIK since 2008 and  helping to raise the level of our dancers.

Albir and Sarah (Spain), Morenasso and Anais (France), Dilson and Bernadeth (Angola) Tony Pirata (France), Bruno and Mafalda (Portugal) and from the UK Donny and Nathalie who came 3rd in 2012, Rico and Josy, Riquita Alta, Bruno and Dawn, Luis and Deborah, Rene and Elen, only to name a few have taken part in this competition and are now names that have grown to be well respected in the Kizomba scene, nationally as well as internationally.

Who will take part this year? Do you fancy yourself as the next name on this list? Do you keep getting compliment on your dancing and being told you should teach? Do you watch the dancers’ video and know you can do better? This is your opportunity to make it real!

This competition is open to everyone and is the best platform to get your dancing to the next level, put your name on the Kizomba map nationally and internationally. We make sure you get the support necessary to make the most of the competition from our Eliminations to the International Final at AfricAdancar, we go through the Rules with you and guide you through the process, whether you are already teaching or performing or simply a kizomba amateur.

It is also a great way to enlarge your Kizomba network, by meeting fellow competitors, get noticed by the judges, promoters and other teachers and who know if you get to be the one representing us at Africadancar  / CIK in Milan you will be on stage in front of kizombeiros, promoters and teachers coming from all over the world.

There are some great prizes to be won too and they keep on being confirmed as you are reading this.

Prizes for 1st place at AfricAdancar / CIK is a great €3,000 cash in addition to the World title.

- Flights to Milan to attend the 7th AfricAdancar, 1 to 4 May 2014

THE GB KIZOMBA COMPETITION FINAL will be held in London on Saturday 5th of April. You will be able to attend the 'DANCE OFF' seated from 7pm on the day. The winners will be announced at the PARTY at Expression Studio, whoch will open its door from 10pm to the  sound of DJ Pat and DJB playing for our dancing pleasure.
 
We have arranged a FULL PASS for both part of the event at just £10 till the 28th February and we offer dicount for groups, just contact us.

The 7th AfricAdancar / Championship International of Kizomba 2014 will be held this year in Milan , Italy as it starting it’s world tour. This year the competition has worldwide literally with Eliminations taking place in the USA , Canada , all over Europe, as well as in Africa with Angola , Cap Verde, Mozambique and Morocco .
 
The event offer for the first time specific days of training for professional dancers and teacher, followed by 3 days of Workshops open to all, the international finals of the competition, shows by some of the best internationally and 4 nights of parties. All of this in the stunning NH Milanofiori Hotel and Congress Center, only 45 min from Milan Malpensa Airport

The full passes starts at €80.00 till this Saturday 15th Feb, and flights from most London airport are as low as £80 return.

The Spalding Suite
Auditions, 25 & 26 February, London
 
Fuel and the Southbank Centre are seeking performers for a new project written by Inua Ellams and directed by Benji Reid, called The Spalding Suite.
 
The Spalding Suite is a project about the subculture around basketball which exists in the UK . Young men see their heroes seemingly defy the forces of gravity and ageing that they are subject to, and it shapes their dreams and aspirations.
 
Mixing poetry, spoken word, storytelling, live music and elements of hip hop culture with choreography influenced by the game, The Spalding Suite aims to examine how the culture meets British identity. The poetry will be written by Inua Ellams, and other poets writing on the theme, and will be performed by five performers.
 
There will be R&D  for the project in w/c 16, 23 and 30 June 2014, and w/c 17 & 24 November 2014.
 
There will be further 4 weeks of rehearsal, and 6 weeks of touring in spring/summer 2015, including a week at the Southbank Centre.
 
We are looking for performers with the following skills and attributes:
 
·         Male
·         Black or mixed race
·         Strong physical theatre and/or dance ability
·         Improvisation skills
·         Proficient in basketball (ideal but not essential)
·         Confident performing poetry

Denise Rowe is a dance and movement artist with over 12 years experience facilitating workshops around the world. She has been developing the Earth Dances workshop programme since 2010.

Denise has trained extensively in African dance in Senegal , Ghana , Zimbabwe , Cameroon and the UK .  She has completed 3 years training in non-stylised & Environmental Movement with Helen Poynor and is currently training in women's shamanic traditions with The Sacred Trust.
Denise is also a student of Shiatsu and Aikido

Co-founder of Tolo Ko Tolo Dance Company and a solo artist working collaboratively across genres, Denise has directed, produced and choreographed a diverse array of performances, films and events.  She has recently been awarded a Trailblazers Champions bursary in recognition of her work in the field of Dance of the African Diaspora.

Denise is associate letcurer at University of Plymouth and registered with Devon Arts in Schools Initiative.  She offers sessions in pan-African dance, site-specific practice and performance, non-stylised movement, rhythm and mbira for Schools, Colleges, Higher Education and community groups.  Please get in touch if you would like to book a session
