University of Leeds
School of Performance and Cultural Industries
PhD Studentship in Performance Technologies
Deadline for applications: 24th April 2015
Start date: 1st September 2015
Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals wishing to undertake doctoral research within the area of Performance Technologies in the School of Performance and Cultural Industries at the University of Leeds. Our Performance Technologies researchers share a fundamental curiosity about the materiality of performance. We approach this topic through a diverse range of technologies, from digital and new media to wood and cloth. Our concerns lie with the languages of technologies in performance, and the influences of performance knowledge on technological design. Our work is characterised by multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, often collaborating with academic or industry partners. The group is led by Professor Sita Popat (Chair of Performance and Technology). Applications are equally welcome for a PhD or a practice-led PhD (where your research questions can only be answered through practical engagement).
We offer specialist supervision in the following areas:
• Performance and new media
• Digital performance and the body
• Human/technology interfaces
• Performance as a tool for innovation in design processes
• Immersive and environmental performance
• The phenomenology of scenography in performance
