Dear All,
I hope you’re well.
I might have mentioned this to you before but we are planning to devote the Rich Mix building to young people aged 14 to 21 throughout August.
The plan is to have Rich Mix host daytime workshops, classes, master-classes, open rehearsals, seminars and talks – all focused on the artistic genres we programme here (music, theatre, dance, spoken word, visual arts, film etc) – with the aim of giving young people a chance to work at close quarters with professional artists and arts organisations who present regularly at the venue; to find out more about working in the arts; to develop their own events; and to have a fun and engaging time over the summer holidays.
We envisage daytime courses happening in multiple spaces starting the week beginning 5th August for three weeks culminating in showcases over august bank holiday weekend. In the evenings we are also looking to programme one-off gigs & performances that are suitable for young people.
In addition, our team of youth ambassadors will also be curating their own mini-festival, which will take place on one day over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
We are now in the planning stages for all this activity and I’m seeking expressions of interest from artists, promoters and organisations such as yourself who might be able to deliver classes, workshops, programming or other events during August. If you’re keen to get involved with the month either by organising an evening performance geared towards young people, or to run workshops, classes and so forth, then I’d be very pleased to hear from you.
At the moment, we’re open to all creative suggestions, so I’m happy to receive any ideas you might have.
We’re aiming to finalise our plans within the next month or so.
All the best
Oliver
