"Tunnels & Trails"
|
The Year 1 Dance Foundation Degree students will be collaborating with Digital Media and HND Photography students for a site-specific performance called "Tunnels & Trails" at City and Islington College on at 7:00pm on Thursday 09 May. There's no charge for admission.
This special performance is a piece that celebrates the opening of the new H.E. Hub at City and Islington College and it is combined with film and a photographic exhibition.
The piece is based on the theme of ancestors and using the idea of tunnels as a visual stimulus, the students have created a multi-media/dance performance around the courtyard of City and Islington College accompanied by live music.
After the performance, you can enjoy a glass of wine as you peruse the photographic and film material created for this project.
All in all, this should prove to be a very enjoyable way to spend a spring/summer evening and we do hope you'll join us for "Tunnels & Trails".
For further details please call 020 7700 8610.
Hope you're enjoying the warmer weather.
Best wishes

PRESS RELEASE
New Bursary for postgraduate dance students
offered by Independent Dance and Siobhan Davies Dance
offered by Independent Dance and Siobhan Davies Dance
Independent Dance and Siobhan Davies Dance are pleased to announce the launch of a new bursary programme to support students on the jointly delivered MA Creative Practice: Dance Professional Practice Pathway offered in partnership with Trinity LABAN Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The bursaries are Leverhulme Arts Scholarships, and are named in memory of Independent Dance co-director and pioneering dance artist Gill Clarke MBE who passed away in November 2011.
Two bursaries of £6,953 will be offered annually over the next three years to support students on the course.
The MA is designed to meet the needs of mid-career professional dance artists working within the UK and internationally.
Bursary applicants must be accepted onto the course and able to demonstrate their professional potential. The criteria against which applications are judged are:
· the impact of the programme on the professional development of the student
· the contribution of the student to art form development
· established commitment to a research-based approach to moving, making and /or teaching
· and financial need
A panel of experienced professionals dance artists will make decisions on bursary recipients.
Details on how to apply are available at: http://www.independentdance.co.uk/programme/activities/ma/gill-clarke-bursaries.
Details on how to apply are available at: http://www.independentdance.co.uk/programme/activities/ma/gill-clarke-bursaries.
Deadline for applications is 1 July 2013.
The MA Creative Practice is a one-year programme designed for the professional practitioner. It provides a unique investigative learning and research environment to support professional dance artists to further develop their practice.
Two distinctive aspects of this course are the intensive studio-based learning with internationally renowned dance artists, and the compact structure of the course, tailored to recognise the changing nature of work for active independent dance artists eager to grow. Key elements of study are delivered by Independent Dance and Siobhan Davies Dance at the RIBA award winning Siobhan Davies Studios in South East London.
More detail on the content of the pathways is available at http://www.trinitylaban.ac.uk/programmes/dance-programmes/postgraduate/ma-creative-practice-dance-professional-practice-pathway
Former MA Creative Practice Students said:
"I have looked for years to find an MA like this… The teachers, environment and tutoring offered is outstanding. These conditions for learning have allowed me to stretch beyond what I thought was imaginable. I am now better able to articulate my ideas within my practice and place those ideas in a broader context." (2011/12 cohort)
"It was, without doubt, the most beneficial professional educative programme of study that I have undertaken in my professional/academic career to date. I feel that Embodied Practice has laid foundations that will serve the rest of my career progression and academic life." (2010/11 cohort)
Senior dance professionals have commented:
“The academic and artistic body of work produced by the MA students, alongside their expanded knowledge, adds to both the understanding and evolution of dance as an artistic and research practice as it increasingly contributes its distinct voice to contemporary creative thinking.”
The bursaries are named after Gill Clarke, who instigated the course, with the express aim to create an environment where students could study alongside current practicing professionals.
Gill was an independent dance artist. She was a founder member of Siobhan Davies Dance Company and also performed and collaborated with other choreographers including Rosemary Butcher, Rosemary Lee, Janet Smith, Kate Brown and Marina Collard.
Gill regarded teaching as an integral part of her artistic practice. She regularly led master classes and workshops internationally for students, professionals and companies, actively engaged in dance thinking and research.
Gill was awarded an MBE for services to Dance and was an Honorary Visiting Professor at University of Ulster.
