I'm looking for a practice-based dance/choreography researchers to collaborate with me on an upcoming project. Bloodlines is a performance engaged with the medical science and subjective experience of disease and treatment (specifically leukaemia, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant). The project provides the opportunity to...
- generate material relating to the project’s basis in biomedical science and/or the subjective experience of disease and treatment
- collaborate with an interdisciplinary team which includes: a theatre-maker, a sound composer, a digital artist, a haematologist and other performers
- feature in performances at the Dana Centre (London's Science Museum), Rose Theatre Kingston and in Antwerp
- research within a AHRC-funded Research Network, with possible opportunities for publications and conference papers
- further public engagement with medical science and support the Anthony Nolan campaign for bone marrow donors
This is a research opportunity rather than a job (we cover expenses rather than a performer's fee/salary) and is suitable for those with:
- a current research aligned with the project’s research questions (PhD and early career researchers welcome) - see website for details
- dance/choreographic training and/or professional experience
- personal experience or interest in the project’s subject matter may be of benefit
Workshops and rehearsal between 30 May and July 18 2013 usually at Kingston University

Dear DTAP Colleagues

As you might know, Ken Bartlett's retirement as Creative Director at the Foundation for Community Dance has recently been announced and will happen in August 2012.

We have now begun recruitment for a new Artistic Director. I would be really grateful for any help you might be able to offer in helping us with this. It would be wonderful if you are able to post to your organisation's website/Facebook page, tweet about it, or forward this advert on to anyone you think might be interested in the post.

We are also recruiting for a Development Manager, and any help you can offer with distributing information about this post would be much appreciated too. Job information packs for both posts can be downloaded from http://www.communitydance/org.uk/jobs

Many thanks in advance,

All best

Chris

VOLUNTEER DANCERS - PAA JOE& THE LION GRAND FINALE NEEDS YOU!

Paa Joe is a world-renowned artist and the Grandfather of the Fantasy Coffin trade. On Saturday 1st June his first and only UK residency, which sees him building his trademark lion coffin, will be celebrated in an evening of theatre in the beautiful surroundings of Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire.
At twilight, the celebration of the coffin will commence– a vibrant and dazzling display of African inspired percussionists, fire spinners and giant puppets – and we are looking for dancers to come and join us in this extravaganza.
The event will be filmed as part of forthcoming documentary film, Paa Joe & The Lion.
The grand finale is inspired by a traditional Ga funeral in which a coffin is travelled around a village in a bid to confuse the spirit so it cannot return and haunt its friends and relatives. It is then believed the spirit must cross a stretch of water to shake off its demons and reach the land of the afterlife.
We are thrilled to be working with choreographer, Ernest Kwame Obeng
If you would like to be part of this unique event then we would love to hear from you!
Please see attached information and contact Victoria Munro on 07930 312 649 or email africulture@live.com
An information session for all dancers will take place at 6pm on Thursday 23rd May at Broadway Cinema in Nottingham city centre (www.broadway.org.uk)

Festa no Festival...

DRUMCAMP is turning 16!

There is still a weekend of pure dance, drumming, making and camping under the british blue sky!

With a wide range of artists, the event gathers some pretty special people!
Including dance workshops by Mariana R Pinho!

Drum Camp is a worldwide percussion and dance event. Some of the countries represented through the workhops and performances include: Brazil, Cuba, Ireland, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, Japan, Egypt, Algeria, Morrocco, India, Australia and Native America, Peru and Spain. (There are many percussion instruments with unknown countries of origin that have been represented – these belong in a category of their own and reach back to our earliest known forms of music-making and ritual).

a Centre for Brazilian Culture...
Festa no Festival...

Would you like to have a brazilian nest where all things related could be found under one roof?
As a brazilian platform we from Gandaia Arts believe there is a massive community of brazilian artists/companies based in the UK that are scattered around and a lot of potential for development is missed out!
So if you would like to engage with a research that aims to shape the basics of the Centre then please read below:

“C4BC” is the working title of what will be shaped into a Community based Cultural Centre in London but aiming to reach out to the whole United Kingdom.
Brazilian visual arts, music, film, dance and performance, theatre, literature, and social and legal care will be at the core of the centre activities.
Based in the model of creative industries, where partnerships are the base of its structure, the Centre will bring together organizations, charities, groups and individuals working with Brazilian culture and education in London and the UK, who will benefit by having a base and accessing opportunities to develop their projects at the same time as having a national platform to network and develop further partnerships.
The centre will establish partnerships not only with other groups in London and the UK, but also with different Brazilian cultural centres in Europe and Brazil.
The aims of the centre are:
*To provide for the general public workshops and training in Brazilian arts and culture, international exchanges and opportunities for groups that are involved with Brazilian culture in London, the UK and Europe
*To provide opportunities for professional development, including the development of skills, networking and promotion through public performance, and national and international networking
*To provide a creative hub space where the many different groups that works with Brazilian culture in London can have access and ownership
*To provide a centre where Brazilian cinema, music, dance, theatre shows as well as exhibitions of Brazilian contemporary art will be programmed
*To provide a space where assistance will be available for disadvantaged Brazilians in need of resources and support
*To provide a space where the many Brazilians cultural organizations and groups in Europe can develop a dialogue with UK groups and organizations
* To provide a centre where Brazilian initiatives and business can have an international exposure in a global city like London.
THE RESEARCH
Based in the experience of our core team, added to the planning of creative industries, we take the chance of this ground breaking initiative to start with the collaboration and sharing of not only good practice but developing a sustainable business plan to reach its full potential.
We are interested on:
· QUESTIONAIRE A - Building a network of Brazilian Centres from around the world, where shared interested can gain force in order to receive attention from Brazilian Government and Private sector;
Fill the google drive form via
· QUESTIONAIRE B - Liaise with other cultural centres with the aim to open a dialogue and compare the needs and challenges of running these spaces;
Fill the google drive form via
· QUESTIONAIRE C - Establish a common ground between venue and artists/companies to work towards a fair schedule and calendar of both regular and one off events;
Fill the google drive form via
· QUESTIONAIRE D - Feedback of general existing public interested on both brazilian culture and services;
Fill the google drive form via

· QUESTIONAIRE E – Green companies to provide solutions and implement sustainable practice on both venue and activities,
Fill the google drive form via
ALL data gathered in this research will be available online on BUKCC website when active. We hope to hear from you by JUNE 1st so we can organize and insert all the results in our proposal.

What does it mean to be Creole? Led by a soundscape, this swinging, undulating dance sees Catherine embark on a journey back to her native country, never letting go of her only partner – her identity and heritage.

Previously a member of Urban Bush Women and Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Catherine joins with scenographer Maud Bandou Hostache of Guadeloupe to create this tale of struggle and enlightenment. A sense of nostalgia and enthusiasm borne of real-life experience brings this performance to life.
