dear friends,

> The Cuming Museum and Carnaval del Pueblo and the Lottery Heritage invite you to the launch
> event of our new exhibition “Carnaval del Pueblo, the story” , latin American events and culture from the 1960's till 2009

> Wednesday October 7, 6pm to 9pm.

Cuming Museum
Walworth Road
Elephant and Castle

I have been helping in curating and researching the visual material for this exhibition and New Generation has been painting and the community the amazing and colourful mural . Come and see costumes, masks, images, videos of Latin American artists who have participated in the Carnaval del Pueblo but who have also been in London for decades and brought their art and culture to the United Kingdom. Choregraphers, dancers, carnival and costumes designers, organisers, and artists will be present on that day.

The photographs collected have been taken by various professional photographers and community members throughout the years.

hope to see you there........with music, poetry, food and love of happiness

THE FURIOUS FIVE & KURTIS BLOW........Legend To Legend World Tour!Live @ The Wardrobe, St Peter's Square, Leeds LS9 8AHSaturday 26th September 2009 - 9.30pm until late....Plus support from Testament (Homecut) and DJs Kid Kanevil (First Word) and Martin Reynolds (Shoesoul) plus more tbcTickets: £14 advance (plus booking fee)The orginal rap/hiphop "Legend To Legend" world tour rolls into Leeds for an exclusive North East/Yorkshire date at the Wardrobe! The Furious Five (Melle Mel, Rahiem, Scorpio, Kid Creole and the late Cowboy) were the devastating MCs who rocked the mic with pioneering DJ Grandmaster Flash back in the mid-late 1970s at block parties around the Bronx and then went on to star on vinyl hits such "Freedom", "Superrappin", "Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel", "Its Nasty","Scorpio" and the groundbreaking social commentary of "The Message". After this, in 1983, the group split, with Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five going on to record hits such as "White Lines (Dont' Do It") and "Beat Street Anthem", as well as Mel recording with Chaka Khan and Quincy Jones. In 2007, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were the first hiphop outfit to be given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum!Kurtis Blow was one of the first New York rappers to break into the mainstream in the late 1970s, managed by Russell Simmons (later of Def Jam Records), and backed by DJ Run (of Run-DMC fame). His first release "Christmas Rappin" was a minor hit but it was his second release "The Breaks" which reached the charts and had him appearing on US TV on "Soul Train" as well as opening shows in New York for Bob Marley and The Clash. In 1985, his track "If I Ruled The World" was used in the hiphop movie "Krush Groove", and the melody would be used later in 1996 by NAS (with Lauryn Hill) on his own multi-million selling track of the same name.....Tonight, the original legends of rap and hiphop take to the stage to rock the party with all their greatest hits plus some hiphop classics by other artists.
