Black Dance In Britain
1930s – 1990s Moments
It is our pleasure to invite you to the artist talk of Black Dance in Britain 1930s – 1990s Moments on Wed 3 Dec, 7pm @ The Drum. Featuring talks by Funmi Adewole from ADAD and Gail Parmel from ACE, this insightful session is chaired by Wanijku Nyachae, Dance Officer from Arts Council England.

Black Dance in Britain depicts important movements in the history of Black Dance in Britain over the last sixty years, the exhibition featuring images of organisations and choreographers who through dance, have engaged in a rich cross-cultural dialogue, sharing styles of movement, experience and innovations. The resulting fusion of dance styles not only began to define dance by performers of African Caribbean, Asian and African descent living in Britain , but it also added a new dimension to British dance.

The exhibition includes images from photographers such as Dee Conway, Chris Nash and Terry Cryer.

Black Dance in Britain will be showing at The Drum, Mon 1 Dec – Fri 30 Jan, admission is free and all are welcome.

STEP AHEAD – THE INSIDERS GUIDE TO DANCE TEACHING FROM LUDUS DANCE
20TH – 22ND FEBRUARY 2009

Ludus Dance, Britain’s leading Dance in Education Company, are set to run their hugely popular Step Ahead course from Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd February 2009. This three day, practical course is an insiders guide to dance teaching in schools and the wider community, and is aimed at all dance teachers.

Previous Step Ahead participants have commented that the course has an excellent mix of practical sessions and discussion, is jam packed with energy, ideas and knowledge from friendly and approachable teachers and dancers which exceeded their expectations.

The course is designed not only to provide a solid foundation to dance-in-education and community dance, but also gives the opportunity for more experienced dance teachers to extend their existing skills.

The course will enable participants to experience dance teaching across all the Key Stages, explore dance teaching in different community contexts, build dancing teaching skills, develop teaching strategies, explore inclusive teaching approaches, develop confidence and to network and share ideas.

Places for Step Ahead are limited and the course fills up very quickly, so anyone who is interested needs to book early. Places are available for one, two or the full three days. More information is available from
www.ludusdance.org/stepahead, or contact Julie Murphy on 01524 35936, or by email on julie.murphy@ludusdance.org.

You're welcome, we're all dancers, by the way, but not all make it to the stage.

Greetings from London.
