Denise Rowe leds a rep workshop of her work This Body, 30th April 2009 7.30-9.15pm

PLEASE COME FOR REGISTRATION AT 7PM.

In this session, Denise will lead a repertoire class of her piece This Body, a 5 minute movement solo, performed with live music from kalimba, vocals and percussion. A lyrical contemporary exploration of one body’s meeting with the inherent wisdom of pan-African dance, This Body has grown out of immersion into the world of the Zimbabwean Spirit instrument, mbira, creative improvisations and movement explorations by the river Dart on Dartmoor national park. An expression of the fluctuating truths of one life’s journey, This Body is delicate, moving and honest, a message from the soul.

There will be a 15 minute Q&A session as part of this workshop. Cost £13 annual registration fee and £3 for class thereafter. Non members pay £8.

To book a place on this workshop please email

FEEDBACK33 TEACHER'S BIOGRAPHY
A solo singer and dancer in the international Afro-Celtic band Baka Beyond, Denise's main interests lie in African and contemporary dance. Denise’s dancing career began in 1997 in Devon where she danced with Ayodele Scott's West African Dance group, Kabudu. In 2000 she co-founded Shekere, a community arts group that took African dance, song and rhythm into schools and colleges; and since 2002 she has been working with Daisi (Devon Arts in Schools Initiative) as a workshop leader and facilitator. In 2006, Denise founded Tolo ko Tolo, a fusion dance company exploring contemporized pan-African dance forms, in partnership with Penny Avery. Drawing on such diverse movement forms as Street dance and Aikido as well as various African dance styles, Tolo ko Tolo’s movement vocabulary is rich with dynamism, subtlety and a sense of joy. Accessible, playful and honest, Tolo Ko Tolo’s work speaks directly from the heart to the heart.
