CONFIRMED JUDGES FOR THE EVENT SO FAR: STEADY (Flawless) and TOFFEE (Tru street Dance/Sticky Toffee Dance Academy)!

The search is now on to find Midlands Best Dance Crew 2011. The sensational urban dance competition comes to Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday 26 November 2011. The Midlands’ most talented crews will battle it out to win the trophy, as well as a stonking £1000, and claim the title of Midlands Best Dance Crew 2011.
After the sell-out success of last year’s competition, where crews went head to head to vie for the Midlands title, the event is now back bigger and even better.

The event is being commissioned by 2Funky and Punch. As well as the main competition, it will feature a £50 prize for the best dancer from the audience.

The Midlands dance event hopes to attract more urban talent to take part on a wider platform and create a fantastic showcase. Crews who wish to take part in the competition are being asked to register in advance by 28 October 2011.

Sky Arts Ignition Series: General Feedback Sessions

Did you apply for the Sky Arts Ignition Series in the first round? Are you thinking of applying for the next round in 2012? These sessions will provide feedback from the key decision making teams at Sky, exploring what it is we’re looking for, how best Sky and arts organisations can work together and a refresher on guidelines, timings, and how to apply.

Sky Arts Ignition Series is a new initiative from Sky aiming to bring more arts to more people by investing in the creation of the best of new and innovative arts. Sky Arts will partner with six leading arts organisations over the next three years, directly investing up to £200k into the creation of each of these new groundbreaking art works, projects, events and performances, using Sky’s reach and innovation to take them to more people – on the ground and on screen.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.

BREAKING THROUGH THE AUDITION BARRIER

Danceworks is pleased to announce a Masterclass Workshop with David Blake, currently with The Lion King London, which is designed to give London-based dancers an opportunity to work with and hear from an industry professional who will share the key tools and requirements necessary for a successful dance audition.

Danceworks is a long established dance studio in Mayfair . We provide scores of classes every week in a wide range of genres for every ability, taught by some of the best teachers in town. We also host many auditions and we are keen to help pros and pre-pros reach their full potential and to find success in their chosen path.

David Blake is an international performer, instructor and choreographer with more than 15 years experience in the entertainment industry appearing in commercials, TV shows, film and print. He trained in singing, dancing and acting at the Cathy Levy Performing Arts Academy, California State University, International Dance Teachers’ Association ( Dance Teachers Academy ) and the Alvin Ailey School .
He is former principal dancer of the internationally renowned National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC), and has toured extensively throughout the Caribbean, United States , Canada , and the United Kingdom . David has been guest artist for various dance companies in Los Angeles , including JazzAntiqua Dance and Music Ensemble. He also performed on shows that featured Rhianna, Duffy and the Pussy Cat Dolls.
David has conducted master classes and cultural workshops in Musical Theatre, Jazz, Modern and Afro-Caribbean based dance and has taught and choreographed for colleges, universities and professional schools including California State University and the Lula Washington Dance Academy .

Places are limited and booking in advance is essential. Dancers should be warmed up before class.

Afro Xplo is back!

Fresh Xplorations of Pan African Dance, led by Ukachi Akalawu.
Influences are from Sabar and other West African dance forms. Improve mobility, strength, coordination and sense of rhythm. Close attention is paid to preparing the body, and developing the integral relationship between dance and music. Live drumming accompaniment.

Classes to be held every Thursday starting 3rd November until 8th December 2011.

Level: This is a general level class. All abilities are welcome.
