artists from the UK, European and South American countries.

We are coming to the end of the year soon, with Ecuadorian painter
Mentor Chico's exhibition 'New Expressionism' starting tomorrow -private
view on Saturday 15th, don't miss it!- and on 16th January Cuban master
of the plastic arts Michel Rollock's exhibition 'Roots'.

We want to thank you for your participation at these events and look
forward to seeing more of you in 2013 -we are planning a range of
activities for the new year but if you find your preferred activity is
not in our list, please write to us with your suggestion!

Season's greetings,

Alejandro & Maria

British Dance and the African Diasporas research project. Study Day

De Montfort University, Leicester. 11th January 2013

The day will survey methodologies for researching British Dance and the African Diasporas and look at current research on the work of British dancers who are Black.

This study day asks how we can re-imagine the legacy of British dancers who are Black from the last 60 years in ways that support new generations of dancers.

What new methodologies are emerging that can help us value the legacy of British dancers who are Black?

What differences, if any, are there between the terms: Black Dance; the work of Black British dancers or British dancers who are Black; Dance of the African Diasporas, African People's Dance?

In order to encourage and support a new generation of dance practitioners, how can we re-imagine the legacy of British dancers who are Black in ways that generate new understanding and appreciation of it?

Confirmed speakers include: Christy Adair, 'Funmi Adewole, Ramsay Burt, Jane Carr, Hassan Mahamdallie, Tony Graves, Pam Johnson.

British Dance and the African Diasporas is an AHRC funded research project led by Prof. Christy Adair, York St John University and Prof. Ramsay Burt, De Montfort University.
