The Afro-Latin Lounge



New monthly drum,song & dance Afro Cuban music night starts 6th Feb

Bombo is please to announce a new monthly night of drum, song and dance from bata and Orisha music to rumba. It is an informal gathering where musicians who know the traditions can come and play and music lovers can sing, dance or just listen.

Monthly Bata Classes

We will be running monthly Bata classes taught by David Pattman. They will focus on different themes. The next two will focus on the Oru Cantado.


This workshop will be revising through songs and toques previously covered in last year's sessions. Some experience of Bata drumming is essential. If you have played Bata before but are not familiar with the Oru Cantado you are still welcome but please be aware this is a revision workshop.

ADAD Lifetime Achievement Award 2013

The ADAD Lifetime Achievement Award honours the outstanding contribution made by individuals to the practice and appreciation of African Diaspora dance in the UK and beyond.

In 2011 ADAD was proud to honour Jamaican-born dancer-choreographer and cultural activist Jackie Guy for his contribution to the international cultural sector through his knowledge of Caribbean dance and music forms, and through his choreographic works. This year the nominees for the ADAD Lifetime Achievement Award are Carol Straker, Namron, Peter Badejo, Imani Jendai, Nii Tagoe and Mark Elie.

The winner will be announced at a reception on February 22, 2013 in the beautiful council chamber of the Urdang, Old Finsbury Town Hall. To buy tickets for the reception click here.
You can also be a part of ADAD's 2nd Lifetime Achievement Award by supporting our crowd funding campaign. Rewards include free dance classes and tickets to ADAD performances. Click here to find out more!

In this exclusive workshop, Alesandra Seutin will give an introduction to the principles of the Germaine Acogny Technique and share to the UK dancers the amazing characteristics this technique has to offer.

Germaine Acogny Technique is based on traditional African dance (especially Senegal and Benin) and Western dance techniques (classical ballet, Limon and Graham techniques). The freedom of the body through discipline within your own identity, resulting ina class with a dynamic vibe and live percussion.

The Germaine Acogny Technique is the only codified Contemporary African Dance technique.
