Tickets: £10 / £15 / £20 + booking fee
Buena Vista Social Club piano prodigy Roberto Fonseca and Cape Verdean singer Mayra Andrade, along with some special guests, are set to bring the sound of Havana to Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3. Roberto Fonseca is at the heart of DJ and producer Gilles Peterson’s latest project, Havana Cultura, created to raise awareness of the site http://www.havana-cultura.com/ <http://www.havana-cultura.com/> . The website is a global art initiative from Havana Club rum and a window on contemporary Cuban culture developed to give the spirit of Havana a global voice. The Havana Cultura album is a celebration of Cuba’s freshest musical talent from latin, afro jazz and fusion to hip hop, funk, reggaeton and R&B. The album includes a collection of new material written and recorded in Havana by local singers such as vocalist Danay (described by Gilles Peterson as “Cuba’s Jill Scott”) and Ogguere. It has been released on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label on October 26th. For a taster of Roberto Fonseca in action take a look at his video on the Havana Cultura site: http://www.havana-cultura.com/INT/EN/cultura.html#/1918
