Come and join us and share in this enriching cultural experience in London’s 4th Floor West dance studios. Diene ‘Waaw Waaw’ Sagna An exceptional dancer and teacher from Dakar, founder of Yaye Dib Afrodance (named in memory of his late mother), Diene ‘Waaw Waaw’ Sagna came to England 3 years ago and has taken the African dance and music scene by storm. Not only does he teach regular weekly classes in his hometown of Manchester but he has also travelled worldwide teaching and performing throughout Europe, to Brazil and Dubai. His love of dance comes from a long family tradition; his mother was a dancer of the Sererre region of Senegal and most of his siblings are part of the profession. His brother, Mbaye Ndiaye, a former member of the ‘Ballet National du Sénégal’ shared his discipline with Diene from an early age and he grew up to train and perform with many dance groups including Davidson Boys and Daray Dioubo.Upon leaving school, Diene turned professional training with the prestigious Blaise Senghor in the capital, studying and developing in a variety of traditional and contemporary West African dance styles. He specialises in Senegalese Sabar dance, however he is also extensively qualified in Djembe dance originating from Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinée Konakry. Career highlights include working with the infamous Youssou N’dour and Coumba Gawlo Seck, choreographing and performing for ‘Collabo’ with Cindy Claes in London’s Stratford Circus and teaching and dancing onstage at WOMAD 2010 with the sensational Anjelique Kidjo and the legendary Salif Keita. Diene’s exuberant personality shines through in his dance and classes, encouraging anyone from the complete beginner to the advanced dancer to feel challenged yet inspired to develop. Amdy Ngom Master drummer from the capital city of Dakar, Amdy Ngom came to the UK whilst touring across Europe as part of the “magical circus adventure from the amazing continent”, ‘Afrika! Afrika!’ Amdy trained at the renowned Blaise Senghor in Dakar as a student of Mbar Ndiaye. His group Bax Yaye performed at many drum and dance shows across Senegal as well as participating in many Tanebeer’s (African showcase and festival); one of the greatest and most traditional ways to enjoy Sabar. Since his arrival in the UK, Amdy has become a much loved figure in the African Sabar scene for his warm-hearted nature, charisma, patience and care in his teaching.
