The Afro-Latin Lounge

My name is Mutaurwa Mapondera, and I'm currently looking to cast African Dance and Drum groups for an upcoming music video that I'm shooting with acclaimed director Rob Chiu (http://www.theronin.co.uk) The video will be for "Cherry Coloured" from my recently released album Going Back is Not the Same as Staying (http://soundcloud.com/fore-2/cherry-coloured)

My work has already garnered significant PR and press from major online outlets in the urban music space:

www.djsemtex.com/blog/2012/05/17/fore-going-back-is-not-the-same-as-staying-album/www.mtv.co.uk/music/urban/4875-free-music-fore-going-back-is-not-the-same-as-staying-albumwww.soulculture.co.uk/blogs/fore-going-back-is-not-the-same-as-staying-album-streamdownload/#axzz1uygzISButheblumile.com/2012/04/19/new-artist-and-mixtape-fore-going-back-is-not-the-same-as-staying-2/kidsofgrime.com/2012/05/fore-going-back-is-not-the-same-as-staying-mixtape-kogmusicnews/http://wearesme.co.uk/2012/04/16/free-download-fore-going-back-is-nt-the-same-as-staying-album/

And the video will definitely make an impact.
I'm writing you to see if you knew of any groups would be interested in getting involved in the shoot. It would involve a one day shoot, shot on location outside of London , potentially in the Northern Moors. The group will be needed to perform as part of the closing set piece of the video. Food and day costs will be covered by me and our production team, however there will be no additional pay for the video.
I would love to have you involved, so please let me know if you're interested.
Regards,
Mutaurwa Mapondera

CIA SOMA MASTERCLASSES - Rhythm from Northeast of Brazil
ONLY TWO SESSIONS

Saturdays June 2nd and 9th

at Husky Studios

29a Amelia Street, SE17 3PY London, United

nearest tube Elephant & Castle

Join us for the GANDAIA EXCLUSIVE MASTERCLASSES with some of the ground breaking choreographers from Brazil's new generation of artists!

Legal support DMA Legal Services

In 2008 dancers Maria Eugenia and Marina Abib founded the Soma Company with the intention of formalizing a body of work they had already been developing together. From that moment on they were able to deepen theoretical and corporeal studies on a dance language based on popular Brazilian manifestations.

In these 2 sessions the artists will bring elements of some of the most amazing rhythms from Northeast Region of Brazil such as Maracatu, Cavalo Marinho, Caboclinho, Frevo and some coco dance to warm up ;-)

BRAZILIAN RHYTHMS

MARACATU is a major cultural expression from the northeast region of Brazil, which involves lively dance, music and theatrical performance. This is a family-based tradition where the dance characters flow in movements that are related to the power of nature and recreate a crowning celebration of the King of Congo. The costumes are very colourful and the drumbeat takes everyone around to an ecstatic mode.

CAVALO MARINHO is a multi expression dance that blends movement/theatre, poetry and impact, usually compared to Commedia dell'arte. Its character are based in a scenarium of sugar cane plantation giving the dance the posture of this way of living.

CABOCLINHO is a dance originated on the brazilian indigenous that in its roots had a ritual as main performance that no longer exists but both costumes and movements still remain.

FREVO is an urban dance, with its roots to capoeira inside carnival times that through the times developed in a virtuous and beyond energetic that each person adds its own style and development.
SAMBA DE COCO is an African-influenced musical rhythm that originated in northern Brazil. "Coco" may also refer to the style of dance performed to the music, a kind of stomping.

The name "Coco" comes from the Brazilian word for head, "cabeça," because song lyrics are often improvised. Coco is often performed with a repetitive musical beat and call and response singing reminiscent of Capoeira music. The music is commonly performed at traditional parties in the northeast, such as weekend street parties and Carnival.

The characteristic sound of coco arises from four instruments commonly used in its performance: the ganzá, surdo, pandeiro, and triangle. Performers also often wear wooden clogs, the stomping of which adds a fifth percussive element.

It is my pleasure to invite you to the launch of the new ADAD Trailblazers fellowships on Thursday May 24, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Urdang, Old Finsbury Town Hall, Rosebery Ave., London, EC1R 4QT.

Established in 2003, the Trailblazers fellowships are ADAD’s primary professional development initiative. The aim of the fellowships is to encourage the creation and promotion of excellent dance experiences through investing in performers, choreographers, dance teachers and researchers in the field of African-influenced dance. To date ADAD has supported 30 UK-based artists working in dance forms including traditional African, Jazz, Hip Hop, Caribbean and Afro-Latin. Past fellows include Bawren Tavaziva, Alesandra Seutin , Denise Rowe and Leo Kay.

In 2010-11, the programme underwent an in-depth evaluation, led by independent consultant Theresa Beattie. The new Trailblazers fellowships has two strands, which will be delivered in alternate years –Champions, aimed at past recipients of the fellowship who have demonstrated strong leadership and entrepreneurial spirit; and Starters for first time applicants who demonstrate creative spark, ambition and leadership potential.

We look forward to updating you on our plans for the future of this programme and revealing the new Trailblazers brand.

Please RSVP to info@adad.org.uk by midday on Monday May 21, 2012.

You can find directions to the Urdang by clicking here.
