2014/15 Dance Fellowship on the Clore Leadership Programme
‘The Fellowship gave me a powerful boost to my confidence, my belief in myself and my abilities as a leader. It helped me to realize and stretch my intellectual capacity, to go out of my comfort zone knowing that I have found a way to manage and thrive in challenging circumstances. I feel excited and inspired by the future.’ Dance Fellow

The Clore Leadership Programme is currently inviting applications for a Dance Fellowship from dancers who have performed professionally for a total of at least 8 years, 5 of which have been with one of the dance companies associated with Dancers' Career Development: Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Northern Ballet, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Rambert Dance Company, Richard Alston Dance Company, The Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet and Siobhan Davies Dance. This Fellowship is supported by Dancers' Career Development and the Linbury Trust.

Dance candidates who do not meet these criteria are eligible to apply for a General Fellowship or other Specialist Fellowships if appropriate.
The deadline for applications is 12noon, 7 February 2014.
The Fellowship Programme supports the personal and professional development of leaders through in-depth learning, tailored to the needs, ambitions and circumstances of around 25 individuals a year, with the aim of building an innovative and resilient cultural sector. Fellows benefit from unparalleled access to experienced leaders, a diverse peer group and extensive networks.
The structure of the programme includes:
  • two residential leadership courses
  • three-month placement to gain practical experience in a cultural organisation
  • bespoke learning opportunities
  • individually-selected training, mentoring and coaching.

To all women in Capoeira Angola ,
Academia Jangada is proud to announce that the following Capoeira event we will be holding in Berlin to celebrate women in the art we all know and love, CAPOEIRA!

The annual “Easter Capoeira Angola Meeting, 17.04.- 21.04.2014. in Berlin will be Berlin 's first Capoeira Angola Women Meeting,
Participation of women in Capoeira Angola began to a broad extend in the 1980s.
To this day there are relatively few Mestras who are actually teatching. This has resulted in a lack of female trainers who can teach with experience and importantly act as a female role model and example for gender equality for younger women in Capoeira.
So far the theme of equal opportunities for women within the Capoeira-Angola-World has found little attention. This we would like to change with our Capoeira Angola Women Meeting.

There will be Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Music classes and Rodas, as well as classes in other types of dance: African Dance, Samba, Street Dance and Aerial Yoga Classes hold by Women only - open to everybody - men are especially invited and we will look forward to welcoming everybody who attends!
The execution of such a huge event takes careful planning. We will be inviting female Capoeira Angola Masters/CM from Brazil . Their names and the program will be announced in due course.
We would also be very grateful to hear from women who teach Capoeira Angola in Europe who would be interested in presenting their work at the event - mestres, contramestres and trenels.
Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in collaborating with us: susyangoleira@hotmail.com.
We will alsocelebrate International Woman's Day by holding an Open Roda on Saturday 08.03.2014 at 5 pm, in the new Academia Jangada inside of the Kulturbrauerei.
So, ladies please mark these dates in your diaries. We look forward to welcoming you in Berlin and you shall of course get a further email from me when the details of the workshop for women in March have been finalized.

Best regards,

Contra Mestra Susy

for more information about the project go to: http://www.dmu.ac.uk/bdad

There are a limited number of places so if you would like a place please book now. At this we will present our key findings from the project and invite the community of dance artists and other members of the sector to reflect on how this research might be useful and contribute to creating future opportunities.
This event is the culmination of a research process which gathered material during Roadshows held in Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham. During these events memories of Black British dancers who were involved with dance from the 1970s onwards were explored. We are investigating the past legacies and contributions to new vocabularies and current artistic practices.
One of our aims is to acknowledge the significance of the contribution of Black British dance artists to dance history and to today’s dance culture. In our exhibition British dance Black routes at the International Slavery Museum, Liverpool we highlight the diversity of dance styles and the rich contribution of the many artists featured in it bringing together a range of thematically organised material on rhythm, community and spirituality.
We do hope you will help us to create what promises to be a stimulating and informative day.
