Bf & She Was A Knife Thrower’s Assistant are two powerful dance duets that explore how we communicate with our bodies through different physicalities, cultural histories and ethnicity. The duets – one male, the other female - present examples of artistic collaborations between artists from different backgrounds, shedding lights on issues of identity, friendship and personal risk-taking.
Freddie Opoku-Addaie and Jorge Crecis present BfTwo men trapped in an unknown game of power, dominance and perseverance, yet seeking for company and communication. Bf explores the quest for a shared existence in the face of the essential loneliness of the individual and the difficulty of communication.
girl jonah presents the duet She was a Knife Thrower’s AssistantWith artful use of choreography, singing and spoken text this gently provocative work brings to the stage a brief picture of a woman who it seems could be waiting backstage, reflecting on the risks we all take and wondering how we can ever be sure where danger is most likely to come from.
Rich Mix then presents three exciting pieces in its Dance Showcase:

The Unknown by Cécile Feza Bushidi
A contemporary dance piece that combines movement, words, and music to support an intimate conversation between two African-born individuals whose cultural differences are questioned.

Dark Matter – Ring Cycle by Shamita Ray
Two stunning and atmospheric solos that blend fluid and dynamic contemporary dance with the intricate hand gestures and percussive rhythms of South Asian dance.

Laughing To Stop Myself Crying by Karensa Louis
This original and intriguing piece contemplates themes of identity, oppression and the self with insight and honesty.
